Mountain bike trail design work at Brentwood’s Smith Park underway | Local News

Bike Walk Brentwood has signed an agreement with the city of Brentwood to begin trail design work on mountain bike trails at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park.

The group is working with Rock Solid Trail Contracting, based out of Copper Harbor, Michigan, to design and build the mountain bike trails at the park.

Bike Walk Brentwood is actively fundraising to make the trails a reality. The first step for the group is raising an initial $14,000 for the design work from Rock Solid Trail Contracting, and the next is raising money for the actual trails.

The estimated cost is roughly $100,000 to build the system the group would like to have.

“We will know the exact amount once the trail design is complete, as the design and building cost is based on the exact trail length,” said Marty Tank, a Bike Walk Brentwood board member.

Organizers feel the new outdoor recreation amenity will serve the surrounding neighborhoods and city residents. The trails will also serve the area high school and middle school mountain bike league teams by providing a local practice training location. Brentwood is home to bikers who finished in the top five at the 2021 state championship race.

“I have young children, and one day, they will have access to the trails,” said Matt Robertson, another Bike Walk Brentwood board member. “Our goal is to make it awesome. This is a project we can be proud of and the community will be proud of, too.”

Volunteers will provide further updates as the project moves along.
