Ludhiana: After a three-day drive against use of modified silencers in bikes, under which 703 challans were issued, the police have started lodging FIRs against those selling and installing these. On Thursday, five FIRs were lodged against the owners of auto parts’ shops and workshops who installed modified silencers. They were also placed under arrest.
On February 15, commissioner of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar had issued orders banning installing, selling and using modified silencers in bikes.
In the first case, Jodhewal police lodged an FIR against Rakesh Malhotra of New Shivpuri Road, who owns an automobile workshop on Noorwala Road, for selling modified silencers and recovered two of these from his shop. The FIR was lodged under Section 188 (disobedience to the orders duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC and he was arrested. In another case, Division 2 police arrested Jai Singh of Islam Gunj, who owns Jai Auto Centre on Brown Road. ASI Paramjeet Singh said, “On a tip-off, a raid was conducted and three modified silencers were found in his shop.” Division 3 police arrested Devi Dyal, who runs Dev Auto Electrician in Rari Mohalla, with three modified silencers.
Division 6 police lodged an FIR against Satwinder Singh of Ghumar Mandi, who runs an automobile workshop near Dhuri Line. The police said he was installing modified silencers in Royal Enfield bikes.
PAU police arrested an auto parts shop owner Amarjeet Singh of Jhandhu Enclave for selling modified silencers and four of these were recovered from his shop. Division 5 police booked workshop owner Manak Sayal of Model Gram Extension for installing modified silencers. Tibba police arrested a Ram Nagar resident, Raveen Kumar, for riding a Royal Enfield bike fitted with a modified silencer in Gopal Nagar. TNN
