Mazda has been around since 1920, but back in the day, it did not produce cars like it does in more recent times. In fact, it was a company that used to make corks. It might come as a surprise to many, but the three-wheeler car’s launch was in 1931 and was named Mazda Go. Since then, the company has made tremendous progress in automobiles and innovation. They have also made some iconic and historic JDM cars, which will go down in history as some of the very best. Since the rotary engine produced by the manufacturer was discontinued, the company heavily reworked its entire lineup, and they did it in some style.
The 2019 Mazda 3 replaces the already existing Mazda 323 and has been in production since 2004. The 2019 model was an all-new design with distinct body styles such as the sedan, and the hatchback, both boasting a unique identity and design. The car had stunning proportions and was beautiful to look at.
Evolution In The Design Aesthetic
The front end of the vehicle defined style, especially the LED headlamps that had a projector in them and daytime running lights. The lower half of the front bumper also had a functional air intake which would direct the air around the wheels for a better drag coefficient. The front grille was finished in gloss black and had lots of chrome surrounding it. The chrome strip extended from one end of the vehicle to another, thereby, connecting the headlamps. The vehicle’s bonnet had two distinctive lines running right from the tip of the car towards the windshield, which joined the A-pillars. Towards the side was the inclusion of 18-inch wheels, offered as standard with a 10 spoke design and were also finished in silver. The buyers had an option of 16-inch wheels as well, but that would impact the vehicle’s ride quality. The outside rearview mirrors had a two-tone finish and LED turn indicators integrated into them. The lower half of the side of the vehicle featured skirts that were finished in gloss black. Although the rear end of the vehicle had a minimal design, the dual exhaust tips popped out from either end of the bumper gave a hint of sportiness. The tail lamps had a split design and a quad light setup, which was also seen on some other Mazda models.
2019 Mazda 3: A Carried Over Engine
The manufacturer went with the ideology of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The engine offered in the 2019 sedan was the same as the previous generation of the vehicle. The 2.5- liter inline 4 cylinder engine was naturally aspirated and produced 186 HP and 186 lb-ft of torque. The power figure this vehicle produced was fairly good compared to its competition. The hatchback version of the Mazda 3 came with a 6-speed manual transmission, but the sedan was limited to a 6-speed automatic transmission that held onto gears very well in high RPM. The paddle shifters provided the driver with manual control; they were also available, which elevated the thrill of driving even further. The sedan’s performance was also fairly good, as it made the 0 to 60 MPH sprint in just 7 seconds. The vehicle had a top speed of 130 MPH, and it returned a fuel economy of 30 MPG combined. Overall the engine was fairly responsive and did not need a turbocharger, unlike its competition, to produce a good amount of power. The NVH levels inside the cabin were among the very best, and it efficiently completed highway duties without breaking a sweat.
2019 Mazda 3: Feature Loaded Drive
All trains of the Mazda 3 had a push-button start along with a 7-inch driver’s display, a cruise control, and a rearview camera. All the infotainment bits of the vehicle were controlled by an 8.8-inch display, which was standard across all trims. Having so many features as standard is what made the sedan very popular. The higher trims of the vehicle had dual-zone climate control and some good safety features like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Talking about safety, the vehicle had a Lane departure warning along with Lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, all as options or standards on the higher trims. In terms of creature comforts, the vehicle had 8-way power-adjustable seats, which had heating and ventilation functions. The range-topping model also had a glass sunroof along with a heads-up display for the driver.
Overall, the 2019 Mazda 3 Sedan was a stunning vehicle with jaw-dropping looks and lots of technology. The shared reliability gave the customers peace of mind that Mazda vehicles are known to offer, and the competitive pricing made the vehicle a success in the market.
