Ahmedabad: A 27-year-old man from the Sola area of the city on Saturday filed a police complaint against a car dealer and his cousin who had taken away the complainant’s Audi and owned it illegally.
Manthan Patel, resident of Raj Bungalows in Sola, said that as he was planning to shift to another state, he wanted to sell off his Audi worth Rs 6 lakh. His friend Meet Patel suggested him to contact an agent Piyush Patel. Piyush told Manthan that he would buy his car for Rs 6 lakh and gave a cheque of Rs 3 lakh on January 30. Piyush also got the sale deed agreement of the car prepared and told Manthan to deposit the cheque.
On February 3, Manthan went to the bank to deposit the cheque but was informed by the bank that Piyush’s account did not have any balance.
Manthan then realized that he was duped and he told Meet about it. Manthan also filed an application before Sola police about the cheating. Meanwhile, Meet came to know that the car was parked in front of Piyush’s cousin Parth Patel’s house in Visnagar of Mehsana.
Manthan and Meet met Parth who told him that he had bought the car from Piyush. As Manthan told him that he was cheated and called up police control room, Parth gave back the car keys but kept the RC book of the car with him saying that he would talk with Piyush and later return the RC book.
On March 10, when Manthan checked the ownership of the car, he found that Parth had transferred the ownership to his name.
