Indore: Car sales and bookings in the auspicious Navaratri period have seen a jump amid a recovery in demand though shortage of stocks and long waiting period dented sales. Bookings of cars mostly in the mid-range segment Rs 6-Rs 20 lakh has jumped by around 15 per cent, claimed car dealers though short supply due to semiconductor supply crunch has hit deliveries to customers.
Paveen Patel, president, Association of Automobile Dealers of Indore said, “Demand for cars has picked up and people have booked cars in advance to take deliveries in the auspicious period. Demand is seen higher by over 10-15 per cent in this period of the year as against the corresponding period last year.”
To cater to the rising demand dealers had placed higher orders with companies but could not get sufficient deliveries from manufacturers due to shortage of semiconductors. Vishal Pamnani, an automobile dealer said, “Wea re not getting desired stocks from companies and this is resulting in long waiting period across different models. Sales could have picked more but shortage of stocks has dented business in this period.”
Dealers said as against the average monthly sales of cars in Indore that remains over 2,200-2,500 units, just double cars have been booked across dealers of different companies in the city to be delivered in the month of April.
They said that despite a recovery in demand for cars, less supplies from companies are expected to hit the segment this year. Unlike the car segment, the recovery in the two wheeler segment looks remote due to hike in prices and spiralling fuel prices, said industry players.Another automobile dealer and vice president of Association of Automobile Dealers of Indore, Aditya Kasliwal said, “Sales in two wheelers have failed to rebound because of high fuel prices, hike in prices across models and stringent norms in financing that has made purchasing difficult for the common man.” TNN
