Hypercars have evolved a lot through the past decade, and a lot of manufacturers have tried their level best to break the 300 MPH barrier. It takes humongous engineering prowess, research and development to make a car to unleash those limits. Bugatti and Mclaren have been two such manufacturers that have always been at the top of the game when it comes to making hypercars, but no one saw Koenigsegg coming as they came out with a fleet of cars that were high-performance machines and available in limited numbers.
The 2021 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is an ultimate revved-up version of the Koenigsegg Jesko, launched at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The Swedish manufacturer built this masterpiece to demolish every speed record. The vehicle is essentially a mid-engine sports car but has a lot of aerodynamics and upgraded technology that enables it to reach speeds most manufacturers can only dream of.
Speeds Beyond Imagination
The vehicle can easily do over 310 MPH. Koenigsegg believes that this car is designed to reach speeds totally beyond imagination. The manufacturer also claims that they do not want to build anything as fast as the Jesko Absolut ever again because beyond a point, the factor of engine capacity becomes negligible, and it is more of a limitation in terms of tires, road condition, and sanity. Adding another fact, this is the fastest Koenigsegg ever made for the street; there could also be an even faster. The automobile is right around the corner, which will be a track exclusive car, probably fast enough to break the speed record set by the Jesko Absolut. The manufacturer’s motto while building the Jesko Absolut was “Because We Can.” There were many design changes done to help the car achieve the crazy speed that it is capable of.
The most significant changes were done at the rear end of the car wherein one will not find the spoiler like in a classic car, but more of wings and the design inspiration from this comes from fighter jets. One of the key things for going at such high speed was to have a very low drag coefficient, and the Jeskoo Absolut has a drag coefficient of just under 0.28, making it very slippery and easy for it to cut through the air. The vehicle used carbon fiber in excess to keep the weight down. The 21-inch wheels on all four corners are made entirely of carbon fiber. Other significant changes to the automobile include covered rear wheels and the lower ride height, all done to achieve a better top speed and deliver high performance. There is also an air duct on the front hood, which is closed to reduce the drag and increase the downforce. The roof panel can be removed and stored in the front trunk for a more aesthetic look to the car.
Heavily Engineered Machine
Powering the 2021 Koenigsegg Jesko is an in-house developed engine with a 5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 motor. The engine can produce 1200 HP and 1100 lb-ft of torque on standard fuel. If one fills up the car with E85 high-performance fuel, the vehicle’s power output drastically increases to 1600 HP. Koenigsegg also claims that their engine has the world’s lightest V8 crankshaft, which weighs in at just 28 pounds. The gearbox of this vehicle is also made in-house and happens to be an innovative 9-speed unit which the carmaker likes to refer to as light speed transmission. It uses a multi-clutch design, and power is sent to all four wheels with rear-wheel steering as standard on the vehicle. To improve high-speed stability, what this does is turn the rear wheels in the same direction as the front. Talking about numbers, the vehicle has a cop weight of just 3000 lbs. The Jesko absolute produces nearly 1700 lbs of downforce at 155 MPH and as much as 3000 lbs at higher speeds.
Use Of Lightweight Materials
As a high-performance machine, every element of the interior is designed to reduce weight and increase the vehicle’s performance, even by the smallest of margins. The interior is very basic, and it does offer some levels of comforts like power windows, adjustable pedals, and an adjustable steering column for the driver. Most of the interior is made out of leather, carbon fiber, and aluminum, giving it an elegant look. The seats are electrically operated and can be customized to be made in microfiber. In terms of connectivity, the vehicle has a digital audio system, a USB port, and a 9-inch touch screen that supports Apple CarPlay.
Overall, the 2021 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut will be made in limited numbers, and the reports suggest that they have already sold out the entire lot. The prices of these vehicles were expected to start over $3 million and could go even further. For that money, what one gets as an absolute performance machine ready to break all records in terms of speed and performance.
